Björn Scheuermann, Prof. Dr.
Prof. Dr. Björn Scheuermann ist seit 2018 Forschungsdirektor am Alexander von Humboldt Institut für Internet und Gesellschaft (HIIG). Er ist studierter Informatiker und Mathematiker. Nach Professuren an den Universitäten Düsseldorf, Würzburg und Bonn ist er seit 2012 Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Technische Informatik und war von 2016 bis 2018 Geschäftsführender Direktor des Instituts für Informatik an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich des Entwurfs von Rechner- und Netzwerksystemen und den Fragen, die sich in diesem Zusammenhang hinsichtlich Sicherheit, Ressourceneffizienz und Zuverlässigkeit stellen. Er betrachtet diese Fragen aus dem Blickwinkel eines Ingenieurs, aber stets auch vor dem Hintergrund, wie Netzwerke und andere Digitaltechnologien mit der Gesellschaft und dem Einzelnen wechselwirken. In seiner Funktion als Forschungsdirektor am HIIG forscht Prof. Scheuermann unter anderem zu Fragen von Privacy und Datenschutz und der gesellschaftlichen Dimension von IT-Sicherheit.
Er führt Forschungsprojekte durch, die unter anderem von Bundesministerien, der Europäischen Union, dem Land Berlin und der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefördert werden. Er ist Principal Investigator des Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF), der Graduiertenschule Helmholtz-Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data Science (HEIBRiDS) und des BMBF-geförderten Weizenbaum-Instituts für die vernetzte Gesellschaft, das er als einer der Antragsteller mit initiiert hat. Seine Arbeit wurde mit mehreren Preisen ausgezeichnet; unter anderem wurde er 2013 aufgrund seines Engagements an der Schnittstelle zwischen der Informatik und gesellschaftlichen Fragen zu einem der ersten Junior Fellows der Gesellschaft für Informatik ernannt.
Prof. Scheuermann hat mehrere erfolgreiche Startups begleitet. Er ist Mitglied in mehreren Beiräten, darunter den des Düsseldorfer Instituts für Internet und Demokratie (DIID) und den des Media Policy Lab der Medienanstalt Berlin Brandenburg. Auch unterstützt er einige Preis-Jurys, darunter die für den Dissertationspreis der Gesellschaft für Informatik, für den Berliner Deep Tech Award und für den Deutschen IT-Sicherheitspreis.
