Corona Apps are new digital tools developed to support the manual tracing of Covid-19 infections. The public debate about various approaches to contact tracing reveals the present political trade-offs hidden in technical design decisions. While the central model reflects the epidemiological need for data on infections, the decentral option prioritizes protecting personal data. Studied from an infrastructure perspective, however, corona apps may acquire additional functions and develop a life of their own.
