What utopias-dystopias give rise to organizations and organizing and disorganization and disor-ganizing, respectively? When we began thinking about the Organization Studies Summer Workshop held in Athens in May 2023, which gave rise to this special issue, this was the question we wanted to explore. In an era where institutions are fragmenting and dissolving, populism is raging and international relations seem poisoned by a resurgence of nationalism, wars and supremacism, populations seem to have lost the capacity to reach agreement on shared values once taken for granted. It is now obvious that the so-called West no longer is held together by the myth of modernity that once defined it, making us wonder whether the Global North has lost its ability to create a shared, novel utopian attempt, that is, a collective positive imagery of the future (Latour, 2017).
