Melissa Laufer, Dr.

Melissa Laufer ist Leiterin des Forschungsprogramms Wissen & Gesellschaft” am Alexander von Humboldt Institut für Internet und Gesellschaft. Mit ihrem interdisziplinären Blick untersucht Melissa Digitalisierungsprozesse im Wissenschaftssystem und in der Gesellschaft. Ihr besonderes Interesse gilt der Rolle der Technologie in der Hochschulbildung. Sie hat ihre Forschungsergebnisse in zahlreichen internationalen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht.

Melissa wurde an der Ghent University (Belgien) zur Doktorin der Soziologie promoviert. In ihrer Dissertation untersuchte sie, welche Rolle die Universitätskultur bei der Internationalisierung der Hochschulen spielt. Im Einzelnen konzentrierte sich ihre Forschung auf die Change Communication an der Universität, akademische Mobilität und akademische Karrierewege. Zuvor erwarb sie einen Master-Abschluss in Interkultureller Kommunikation & Europastudien an der Hochschule Fulda – University of Applied Sciences. Ihr Bachelorstudium absolvierte sie an der University of Oregon (USA), wo sie Internationale Studien, Germanistik und Anthropologie studierte.

Bevor sie zum HIIG kam, arbeitete Melissa als Forscherin an der York University (Kanada) in einem international vergleichenden Projekt, in dem die Berufswege internationaler Studierender untersucht wurden. Von 2014 bis 2018 war Melissa wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Centre for Higher Education Governance Ghent an der Ghent University. Während ihrer Promotion erhielt Melissa mehrere Mobilitätsstipendien und war Gastwissenschaftlerin am Deutschen Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung (DZHW), an der National Chengchi University (Taiwan) und am Center for International Higher Education (Boston College). Sie ist Mitglied der Early Career Higher Education Researchers (ECHER), der Gesellschaft für Hochschulforschung und der ECPR Standing Group – Knowledge Politics & Policies.
