SUMMARY:Von Alma Mater zu Algo Mater
inden Sie unten.\n\n\n\nIn the fourth and final event of the series we tur
n towards education: Data-based education offers individualized learning o
pportunities to schools and higher education institutions\, allowing for m
ore effective learning\, fewer drop-outs and wider access to high quality
education. But what if highly sensitive educational data falls into the wr
ong hands? How is student data best protected\, how does the current Europ
 ean legal framework perform?\n[photospace ids="28716\,28717\,28718\,28713\

ries Big data: big power shifts?\nThe event is the keynote dialogue for th
e series Big data: big power shifts?\, that the HIIG conducts in cooperati
on with the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communications.\n\nAltho
ugh big data has been a major issue in the internet-related public debate\
, it is still unclear what impact big data has on societies today. Mayer-S
chönberger &amp\; Cukier claim that big data is a “revolution that will
transform how we live\, work\, and think”. But whereas revolutions impl
y a profound shift in power relations\, there is little evidence and debat
e about whether and\, if so\, how big data affects power relations.\n\nThe
lecture series will explore this topic with speakers from different backg
rounds and be backed by a special issue of the Internet Policy Review.\n\n
The event series Big data: big power shifts? is curated by Dr. Lena Ulbric
 ht\, WZB Research Fellow.\n\n
