SUMMARY:Mal es dir aus! Was Datenvisualisierungen für Wissenschaft leisten
  können
DESCRIPTION:Am 3. Juli veranstalten Elephant in the lab ihr nächstes Meetu
p zu dem Einfluss von Datenvisualisierungen auf Wissenschaft. Bei Interess
e melden Sie sich bitte über die Meetup Website an. Die Veranstaltung ist
in englischer Sprache.\n\n&nbsp\;\nPicture it! What data visualisations c
 an do for science\n3 July 2019 | 7 pm\nHIIG | Französische Straße 9 | 10
117 Berlin\n&nbsp\;\n\nWhen you think of Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian M
an or John Snow’s famous map of cholera outbreaks in 19th century London
\, you think of early examples for data visualisations. In academia\, visu
alisations have always been widely used to communicate findings and make s
ense of the data. Given that early research was published on paper and dis
tributed analogously\, visualisations were static.\n\nNowadays\, there is
an ever increasing number of visualisations in papers: statistical results
\, maps\, social networks\, you name it. But despite technological advance
s and modern approaches to data visualisation\, published infographics rem
ain mostly static.\nWhat opportunities does science miss by sticking to th
is (outdated) state-of-the-art? Can publications benefit from the tools an
d approaches already employed in data science or data-driven journalism? W
hat better ways are there for telling stories with interactive graphs or w
eb apps to make research more compelling?\n\nBringing together scientists
and data visualisation specialists\, we give you an insight into the world
of visual representations and discuss new ways to explore data. We will e
ncounter the good\, the bad\, and the beautiful side of data visualisation
s and give you some inspiration for your own research. Just picture it!\n\

ural field and its means and potentials for curation\, critical and interv
