Are you looking for a platform to share your research questions and new perspectives? Would you like to further develop your research projects in dialogue and build new networks? Have you seen our current Call for Papers<\/a>?<\/p>\n

[UPDATE] In the light of current interest and upon request, we would like to extend the Call for Papers for the Early Stage Researchers Colloquium 2013 by two more sessions on Open Hardware and Crowd Creation as well as Big Date. Further submissions will therefore be accepted for all sessions until 10 July 2013. Please find all information on colloquium.hiig.de.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Initiated by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society the Early Stage Researchers Colloquium will take place on the premises of the Forum Berlin of Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation e.V. on 21 November 2013. Looking back on experiences, encounters and enrichments of last year’s colloquium, the Institute cordially invites doctoral candidates as well as post-docs from all over the world to participate in the current Call for Papers<\/a>\u00a0and present their projects and ideas<\/p>\n

Ben Kamis and Dr. Thorsten Thiel, both working at the Goethe University in Frankfurt in the Cluster “The Formation of Normative Orders”, submitted their paper and finally presented their research results at the 1st Berlin Colloquium in October 2012. Behind the title “The orignial Battle Trolls. Why States want the Internet to be a violent place” a well- grounded and at the same time humorous lecture was held. Based on the analysis of published statements made by states in five different nations, Kamis and Thiels developed the thesis that states are the ultimate “troll” on the Internet, because it describes the Internet in metaphors of violence and war. To gain an insight, we recommend their paper published on sicherheitspolitik-blog<\/a> as well as the review of the colloquium from the perspective of the institute’s doctoral candidates in our blog science2discuss<\/a>.<\/p>\n
