Also in the conversation with Wouter Bernhard, they discuss Zuckerberg&#8217;s hearing in the US as well as the role of AI for content moderation.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"17\">17 Nathalie Mar\u00e9chal: How do we hold internet companies accountable?<\/h3>\n<p>Nathalie Mar\u00e9chal, Senior Research Analyst at Ranking Digital Rights, talked with Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Dubois about the wrong doings of Internet and telecommunication companies such as facebook, apple or Deutsche Telekom. Without connectivity among those, the internet simply doesn&#8217;t exist. Is the manufacturer or the owner to blame? Luhmann student and system theorist Dirk Baecker says: &#8220;Maybe just the cat?&#8221; Dirk Baecker talked to Thomas C. B\u00e4chle about &#8220;artificial intelligence&#8221; and how we can understand current developments from a systems theory perspective. Ultimately, the question is what intelligence is and what systems theoretical research can achieve.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"14\">14 Max von Grafenstein: Data protection and innovation<\/h3>\n<p>This week its the General Data Protection Regulation&#8217;s (GDPR) first anniversary. Wouter speaks with HIIG-researcher and data protection expert <strong>Max von Grafenstein<\/strong> on the difficulties of data protection and his research on the innovation potential of the GDPR.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"13\">13 Marcel Pirlich on Advertising and AI<\/h3>\n<p>Online advertisement companies have been using statistical models for long. HIIG researcher Jessica Schmeiss interviews <strong>Marcel Pirlich<\/strong> (Adspert) on how exactly the startup uses AI technologies in online marketing and how this results in a successful business model. The episode is part of the &#8220;Demystifying AI in Entrepreneurship&#8221; project at HIIG.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"12\">12 Nicolas Friederici on African innovation hubs<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Silicon Savannah&#8221;, &#8220;Africa is rising&#8221; &#8211; much attention is directed at Africa as a continent of economic opportunity and growth. We&#8217;ll be speaking with Jessica Schmeiss, doctoral researcher at the Humboldt Institute. Together with HIIG-researcher Am\u00e9lie Heldt, she discusses the different methods of moderation and the role of AI yet to come.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"6\">6 Squeak-clean internet<\/h3>\n<p>Wouter met <strong>Martin Riedl<\/strong> in the middle of Berlin to discuss how platforms keep the internet &#8220;clean&#8221; from undesirable content &#8211; but what is undesirable?
