Factory Opening | HIIG @ Startup Fair

When the "Factory", campus for founders & innovators, opens its doors on Wednesday 6 June, HIIG doctoral researchers will provide live sessions of the "Startup Clinics" at the Startup Fair. From 19.50 o'clock onwards, HIIG director Jeanette Hofmann will be guest at the panel discussion on Internet & Entrepreneurship 2020.

Barcamp ‘Gesellschaft 2.0’ – und was kommt dann?

The Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society is partner of a Barcamp, taking place 13 – 14 June, organised by the "German Science Year 2014". The workshop focuses on the "2.0 society" and evaluates the upcoming changes of our society dueto digitalisation. Please register here.

Working Paper Series: What drives academic data sharing?

HIIG researchers Benedikt Fecher and Sascha Friesike as well as Marcel Hebing published a new paper in the RatSWD Working Papers series. The paper addresses the idea of data sharing in academia and evaluates the current situation.

Startup Clinics Talks at Bebelplatz

The HIIG Startup Clinics announce a new Startup Clinics Talks (SCT) event. 27 May 2014 – 7 pm KPMG consultants Jablonska, Kimmel, Weigert and Wilms will give an overview over the most relevant Employee Participation Plans. The event takes palce at the HIIG office, Bebelplatz 1. Registration is required but free.

SSRN-Series: Crowd Study 2014

The Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society published the Crowd Study 2014. The HIIG surveyed over 200 companies in Germany and interviewed managers about their use of the digital crowd. The paper, which is part of the HIIG Discussion Paper Series on Internet & Society, can be downloaded via SSRN.

Press release: Open journal Internet Policy Review rolls out new partnership and launches new platform

The Internet Policy Review is one year old. The journal on internet regulation, whose publisher is the Alexander von Humboldt Institute on Internet and Society in Berlin (HIIG), celebrates its first anniversary in company of a new partner, the Glasgow-based CREATe research consortium and launches its revamped platform.

HIIG @ Berlin Web Week

The Web Week in Berlin just took off and HIIG researchers will contribute in several sessions of the re:publica. Jeanette Hofmann will give a talk on the future of Global Internet Governance. Who is regulating and how to regulate, is the everlasting question. Frédéric Dubois will guide through a panel, that lines up under the title "Public service content outgrows public service media". Kaja Scheliga completes the group of HIIG researchers. She will give a presentation on "Books gone wild" with Sönke Bartling and Lambert Heller. Open Journal Club with Anupam Chander

"Breaking the Web". At our Open Journal Club, 5 May 2014 – 5pm, Anupam Chander, Director of the California International Law Center, presented his paper on "Data Localization vs. The Global Internet", which was followed by a discussion with our researchers. We collected some impressions for you.

NET mundial and Network of Centers in Sao Paulo

From 22 April on Jeanette Hofmann, Wolfgang Schulz, HIIG directors, and Mayte Peters are in Sao Paulo attending NETmundial and two events organized in co-operation with the Network of Centers, which HIIG has been coordinating since the Network's inception in 2012.
