HIIG @ Berlin Web Week

The Web Week in Berlin just took off and HIIG researchers will contribute in several sessions of the re:publica. Jeanette Hofmann will give a talk on the future of Global Internet Governance. Who is regulating and how to regulate, is the everlasting question. Frédéric Dubois will guide through a panel, that lines up under the title "Public service content outgrows public service media". Kaja Scheliga completes the group of HIIG researchers. She will give a presentation on "Books gone wild" with Sönke Bartling and Lambert Heller. The talk focuses on the possibilities to work openly, collaboratively and continuously on scientific books. Visit Berlin Web Week (official)

Open Journal Club with Anupam Chander

"Breaking the Web". At our Open Journal Club, 5 May 2014 – 5pm, Anupam Chander, Director of the California International Law Center, presented his paper on "Data Localization vs. The Global Internet", which was followed by a discussion with our researchers. We collected some impressions for you.

NET mundial and Network of Centers in Sao Paulo

From 22 April on Jeanette Hofmann, Wolfgang Schulz, HIIG directors, and Mayte Peters are in Sao Paulo attending NETmundial and two events organized in co-operation with the Network of Centers, which HIIG has been coordinating since the Network's inception in 2012.

Network of Centers – Open Discussion

Alongside the NETmundial in Sao Paulo the Rio Institute of Technology & Society and the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in cooperation with Network of Centers (NoC) hold an preparatory seminar with an open discussion between the different stakeholders on Internet governance.

‘Internet Research 17’ coming to Berlin

According to the Association of Internet Researchers, the 'Internet Research 17' conference will be taking place in Berlin in October of 2016, organised by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society and the Hans Bredow Institute. Up to 500 researchers from all fields of Internet research are expected to join the conference.

First annual reserach magazine released

More than an annual review: The first volume of our annual research magazine encore just got published. encore's intention is to make public what we do and how we address the manifold links between Internet and society. Get an insight on how we work and enjoy reading!

Science 2.0 Conference | Live stream

How does Social Media change research and publication processes? The International Science 2.0 Conference addresses this issue and will air a live stream of their findings. As a member of the Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0, the HIIG is represented by Benedikt Fecher and Kaja Scheliga, who will both give a talk.

SSRN Paper Series: New paper published

We published a new paper in the SSRN Paper Series. The article focuses on the participation in on-line co-creation. HIIG researchers Send, Friesike and Zuch analysed how to create and upheld motivation for co-creations. The article provides an overview of the research in that area.

Cloud Strategy for Chile

The Commission that was doing research on a Chilean Cloud strategy is going to present their results to the Chilean minister of foreign affairs and the minister of economic affairs this Friday. The HIIG, represented by Osvaldo Saldias, initiated the discussion and accompanied the research process. Read more
