Shirley Ogolla
Shirley Ogolla is an associated doctoral in the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Society research focus.
As part of the BMAS-funded project Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Work – Implications, Opportunities & Risks, she investigated the use of AI applications in knowledge-intensive organizations together with Prof. Hendrik Send and Dr. Georg von Richthofen. In her dissertation, she conducts qualitative process case studies, supervised by Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Schildhauer.
Previously, she investigated new forms of employee participation and processes of co-determination in the research project Competitor and Complementary – The Relationship between Workplace Co-determination and New Participation Platforms. The project was part of the research network “Digitalization, Co-determination, Good Work” and was funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation and carried out in close cooperation with the Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI) in Berlin.
Shirley spent her first time at HIIG as a student assistant in the Internet-based Innovation research group at HIIG in Berlin and was an associate researcher at HIIG for another year. In the summer of 2017, she was also a research intern at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University in the US.
Shirley studied Media Cultural Studies & Art History in Freiburg, Paris, Berlin and New York. From 2011-2018 she received a scholarship from Hans Böckler and was accepted for their PhD funding in 2020. Far from the academic ivory tower, she passionately translates her academic with her art collective into interactive art installations for the general public. Her artistic work has resulted in awards from the BMBF and the Gesellschaft für Informatik, as well as an affiliation at metalab at Harvard University and ELLIS Alicante Foundation for Human-centric Artificial Intelligence Research.
AI · Entrepreneurship & innovation · Society & cultureArtificial Intelligence & Knowledge Work – Implications, Opportunities and Risks
The research project focuses on the use of AI applications in the intraorganizational workplace of knowledge workers.
Competing and complementing – The relation of Co-determination and new participatory platforms within companies
In our project we do research on workers participation on digital platforms by examining new forms and processes of employee participation online.
