The transdisciplinary research project Impact AI analyses projects, organisations and initiatives that use AI with the goal of contributing to sustainability and the public interest. The research is conducted by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) in a transdisciplinary partnership with Greenpeace and Economy for the Common Good. To assess AI use cases, the Impact AI project developed the Impact AI Method, an impact assessment method to systematically evaluate the actual contribution of AI use to sustainability and the public interest. At the core, the method consists of a survey of technical details of the AI system, as well as several interviews with different project leads and, if possible, additional external perspectives. More information on the project and method can be found in the Impact AI FAQ. Additionally, the templates and materials of the Impact AI Method are available online. In this report, we present our findings on the "Full Fact AI" project, an AI-supported software for fact-checking. It is developed by the UK-based organization Full Fact.
