Algorithms run the world and in this increasingly monetized world – all they want is attention. We focus on consumers resisting algorithmic control through the practice of ‘digital detoxing’ or social media breaks. Based on ethnographic/netnographic data, we analyze how consumers are taking back control of their digital lives.
