Julian Ausserhofer
Julian Ausserhofer is a digital communication researcher from Vienna, Austria. He pursues his PhD at the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna and works as an associate researcher for the HIIG. Between 2008 and May 2016 he was employed as a research associate and lecturer at the Institute of Journalism of Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz, Austria. He was a 2014/15 visiting scholar at the Center for Science, Technology, Medicine and Society at the University of California, Berkeley, and a summer 2013 research fellow at HIIG. Academically, Julian’s areas of interest include computational methods in the social sciences and in journalism as well as social media in news and politics. In particular, Julian examines practices in data journalism and the interactions between users, databases, algorithms and other actors in the formation of networked publics.
