SUMMARY:Finding the essence. Businesses facilitating knowledge transfer
DESCRIPTION:Startups play an increasing role in facilitating knowledge tran
sfer processes\, including the transfer of scientific results into society
\, businesses\, and politics. At our September meetup\, we welcome two spe
akers who both founded knowledge-driven startups. They will talk about the
ir experience of becoming founders as well as their perspective on knowled
ge transfer and the impact of science:\n\n From dissertation to startup t
o thriving business – Dr. Robin Tech\, founder of AtomLeap\, a big data
analytics startup based in Berlin. He’s also a researcher at the Berlin
Science Center and MIT\, Cambridge\, and an alumni of HIIG.\n The challe
nges and pleasures of creating content businesses – Sebastian Klein\, fo
under of Blinkist and partner at the think tank TheDive. He is a publisher
of the magazine Neue Narrative.\n\nFINDING THE ESSENCE\nBusinesses facili
tating knowledge transfer\nImpact of Science · September Meetup\nMonday\,
  17 September 2018 | 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm | Doors open 6.30 pm\nHIIG | Fran
 zösische Straße 9 | 10117 Berlin\nRSVP\nThis meetup special is part of t
he 2018 Impact School which takes place at HIIG from 17–19 September.\nM
eetup series\nThis meetup is part of a regular series on the impact of sci
ence jointly organised by Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet an
d Society (HIIG)\, Impact Distillery\, and Elephant in the Lab.\nThere is
a pressing need for informed expertise from virtually all fields of academ
ic research. Still\, scientific expertise often remains within its own dom
ain and only reaches relevant decision-makers in civil society indirectly
and belatedly. The prevalence of citation metrics to measure scholarly imp
act often compels researchers to focus on article publications in discipli
nary journals. Prominent policy makers and research funders therefore incr
easingly place the question of societal impact at the top of their agenda.
\nThe event series aims to create a platform for experts and the intereste
d community around Open Science\, Knowledge Transfer and related topics. I
n short talks we invite experts to shed light on the exchange between poli
tics\, business\, media and academia. Individual meetups explore disciplin
ary particularities and innovative formats of knowledge exchange.\n\nJoin
the discussion and stay tuned by signing up to the meetup group!\nJOIN THE
  GROUP\n
