Digitaler Salon: Der Fall der Paywall

Once a month, we publicly discuss the impact of digitisation on society at Digitaler Salon. We invite special guests, engage in a dialogue with the audience and the Twitter community and broadcast it on YouTube. In September, we will talk about open access. The talk will be held in German. Wie erleichtern wir den Zugang zu Informationen – und zwar für alle? Mit Open Access kommen wir der großen Utopie von freien Forschungsergebnissen etwas näher: kostenloser, digitaler Zugang zu wissenschaftlichen Publikationen. Die Covid-19-Pandemie hat erneut gezeigt, wie wichtig es nicht nur in Krisenzeiten ist, dass Bibliotheken, Universitäten und Verlage ihre Veröffentlichungen digital und kostenfrei zugänglich zu machen. Dem Abbau von finanziellen, technischen oder rechtlichen Barrieren stehen jedoch immer noch veraltete Geschäftsmodelle im Weg. Wie zugänglich sind die Online-Publikationen tatsächlich? Und global betrachtet: Für wen? Wie bauen wir bestehende Barrieren ab und finden innovative Wege, wissenschaftliches Wissen mit der Gesellschaft zu teilen?

• Raffaela Kunz, wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Max-Planck-Institut und Leiterin des Projekts “Wissenschaftsblogs als Infrastruktur für digitale Publikationen und Wissenschaftskommunikation: Ausbau des Modellprojekts ‘Völkerrechtsblog'”
• Cori Antonia Mackrodt, Cheflektorin im Bereich Soziologie bei Springer VS, wo sie sich mit Fragen der strategischen Weiterentwicklung von Publikationsformaten und -formen beschäftigt
• Maike Neufend, Referentin am Open-Access-Büro Berlin (OABB) und zuvor Herausgeberin der Open-Access Zeitschrift “Middle East – Topics & Arguments”

Die Einführung in das Thema übernimmt Marcel Wrzesinski, er ist Open-Access-Officer am HIIG und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im DFG-Projekt „Innovatives Open Access im Bereich Small Sciences“ (in Kooperation mit ZBW – Leibniz-Informationszentrum Wirtschaft).
 

 
With good weather conditions we open our doors from 6.30pm. From 7 pm the talk will be broadcasted live on hiig.de. Then join in – via Twitter or sli.do using #DigSal. In the rooms of the institute, a face mask must be worn outside of your own seat. A minimum distance of 1.5 metres applies to all visitors. Visitors with cold symptoms and fever should not attend the event.
