Diego Cerqueira

Diego Cerqueira is a Software Engineer by training and a German Chancellor Fellow, working on his project at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) in Berlin, Germany.

His research is funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH-Stiftung, Bundeskanzler-Stipendium). His areas of expertise are Privacy and Data Protection, investigating, from a Software Engineering perspective, how new regulations are implemented and integrated into the software development cycle.

Between 2021 and 2023, he served as a Senior Project Analyst and Researcher at Ceweb.br | NIC.br, the executive branch of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), focusing on Web Privacy, Data, Internet, and Artificial Intelligence Governance. From 2016 to 2021, he was a Researcher & Technical Leader at ITS Rio, where he contributed to the creation of various civic technologies such as Mudamos+, Pegabot, and LGPDJus. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Systems and Computer Engineering (PESC/COPPE) at UFRJ and is a Board Member of data_labe.
