Two of our Summer Fellows – Julian Ausserhofer, a doctoral researcher at the University of Vienna, and Han-Teng Liao of the Oxford Internet Institute – recently encountered the research paper “the relevance of algorithms” by Tarleton Gillespie at the journal club of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society.
Julian presented the paper at the weekly gathering of our doctoral researchers, fellows and guests as the first contribution of all four summer fellows. He published the slides and some notes of the event at ausserhofer.net.
Han-Teng on the other hand took his own a approach on the matter and wrote about what he sees as the papers core idea at his own blog, in a post called “Calculated publics? Hazards of meritocracy in promising efficiency and rationalism“. It turned out really well and is a definite recommendation!
