In recent years, the European Union (EU) has significantly changed itsattitude towards digital tools and technologies, platforms, services and markets. After years of adopting a more liberal stance, it has now strengthenedits regulatory measures to meet the challenges of digitization. A decisivemoment was the adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR)2 in 2016, which marked the beginning of a series of new regulations that have already been adopted as part of the Commission's strategy "AEurope Fit for the Digital Age" (European Commission, n.d). Against thisbackground, the question arises as to whether these regulatory approachesalready have implications for metaverses.
