Frédéric Dubois

Frédéric Dubois is the managing editor of Internet Policy Review, an open access and peer reviewed journal on internet regulation published by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG, Berlin), in cooperation with the Centre for Regulation of the Creative Economy (CREATe, Glasgow), Centre Internet et Société (CNRS-CIS, Paris), Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3, Barcelona) and the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies (Tartu).

He is a Professor at the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln / TH Köln, where he takes care of the master’s program Digital Narratives. He also works as an author and producer of interactive documentary. Frédéric holds a scientific-artistic doctorate (Dr. phil. in art.) in film production from the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, a Master’s degree in communications from the Université du Québec and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.

His teaching and research expertise is in the fields of Digital narratives (augmented, immersive, interactive), Community storytelling and media. Interactive documentary, Media innovation, Media impact, Media production (incl. commons-based production), Journalism, Creative journalism, and Open access. He is driven by the question of how to best enable a creative and at the same time responsible public sphere and counter publics that, ideally, pursue nonprofit goals. Frédéric’s approach is thus profoundly interdisciplinary, international and user-oriented.

Frédéric has previously been a journalist, among other for the Association for Progressive Communications. He co-edited two books about media and journalism: EXTRACTION! (2007) and Autonomous Media (2005).
