Pressemitteilung: The Internet Policy Review expands with new French partnership

12 May 2015

BERLIN – May 12, 2015

On the occasion of its second anniversary, the online research publication Internet Policy Review announces a new partnership.

The open access peer-review Internet Policy Review, published by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society, in cooperation with the UK research consortium CREATe, has recently concluded a partnership with the Institute for Communication Sciences (ISCC).

The ISCC, supervised by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Paris Sorbonne and the University Pierre and Marie Curie, initiates and follows up on interdisciplinary research in communication science with a special focus in the interaction between science, technologies and society.

The new partnership with ISCC is not only of geographical importance, enabling the journal to better source research and cover latest developments in France, but also to deepen the journal’s expertise in internet governance issues particularly. ISCC researcher and internet governance specialist Francesca Musiani becomes academic editor of the Internet Policy Review and senior researcher Mélanie Dulong de Rosnay joins the journal’s Editorial board.

After successfully launching in May 2013, the Internet Policy Review has developed into a full-fledged journal specialised on internet research in Europe. In early 2015, the Internet Policy Review was accepted to the Directory of Open Access Journals.

Located at the crossroads of scholarly publication and journalism, this fast-track-review journal offers short form in-depth articles about, among other, copyright, cyber security, data protection, freedom of expression, infrastructure and internet governance. Latest research articles went from privacy enhancing technologies in hacktivism, to user-generated content in the EC consultation on copyright, via ethics in online experiments.

Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society

The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) was founded by the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, the Berlin University of Arts and the Social Science Research Centre Berlin (WZB) in conjunction with the Hamburg-based Hans Bredow Institute (HBI) by way of an integrated collaborative partner. The overall goal of the Institute is to contribute to a better understanding of the interdependencies between the Internet and society. The development of the Internet and its interplay with processes of social transformation is examined from a society-oriented and problem-centred transdisciplinary perspective. Thus, the research projects are not only intended for an academic audience but are also focused on specific social, legal, political, economic and participatory problems.
